London Conversations With: Christy Lam

Current favourite Local cafe? I love visiting Monocle Café, it’s a small Japandi-style café on Chiltern Street serving breakfast to light lunch dishes to afternoon snacks! My go-to order from their current menu is the egg mayo sandwich and a slice of the match cheesecake.Do you have a favourite place for afternoon tea?My favourite afternoon tea has got to be the Prêt-à-Portea at The Berkeley! They change their pastries with each fashion season, taking in inspiration from the catwalks and fashion icons. The pastries also taste gorgeous, it’s such a memorable experience and I highly recommend it to everyone!
Do you have a place you take all your visitors?Fortnum & Mason for a truly British shopping experience, especially around Christmas time! The place is always beautifully decorated, there is also an ice cream parlour serving classic British ice cream sundaes.
Favourite cheap eat?Custard lava buns at Bun House! It’s quite a popular item there – a steamed bun with a flowing custard filling that literally explodes when you tear the bao apart! Christy is the creator of @the_lazyfoodie and is probably more excited about indoor dining than anyone else out there! She prefers her coffee flat white with normal milk and knows all the best coffee shops and cafes around the city. She gave us the inside scoop to her favourite spots in London along with the ultimate order! Is there a hidden gem you’re willing to share?Toconoco – a Japanese, child-friendly café in East London! They serve a changing daily menu of Japanese dishes and cakes, it’s also a very quiet and calming space!
Favourite restaurant for date night? What’s your go-to order? With the pandemic we’ve been opting for dining in at home – we love getting sushi from our local Sushi Show! They do high quality, authentic sushi with really good value, we would normally get the Matsu set which comes with just the right portion of delicious sushi!
What is the best dessert you’ve had in London?Flour and Grape serves the most delicious Tiramisu gelato (their pasta is also top notch) – a must order every time! What is a classic London thing that you’ve never done? I’ve never seen the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace!
